F45 Logan Central, Where Ohana Means Family

By Susan Ciancio

The F45 Logan Central in Queensland, Australia, has adopted the motto “ohana.” Trainer Tyson explains that “ohana means family, and no one gets left behind.”

All gym members feel this family atmosphere, but it’s even more special—and crucial—to Janeen, who suffers from complex PTSD. In a new Functional Unleashed video, Janeen explains that prior to joining the F45 gym, she had been in and out of psychiatric hospitals. She suffered from depression, anxiety, and dissociation, and she wanted nothing more than to hide away from the world. She felt that the world was a scary place, and she wanted no part of it.

All it took was one woman’s encouragement to convince her to leave her house and step into an F45 gym, and a whole new world opened up to her. Janeen agreed to go to that first F45 class, and she has not looked back. She explains that she fell in love with the group workouts and the atmosphere right away, that she felt welcomed by the F45 community, and that she has gained a sense of purpose. She came to truly understand what Tyson meant by ohana—and she says that he has now become like a brother to her.

In addition to her mental health problems, Janeen was extremely overweight when she joined the F45 gym. The F45 workouts have helped her lose a significant amount of weight, increase her strength, and build stamina.

But the physical benefits of F45 membership are not the only benefits she has reaped. Janeen now has a different outlook on life, and her mental health has improved markedly. She states, “The way I think has changed.” She credits the F45 community and the workouts for changing her mindset about life, for giving her clarity, for increasing her self-esteem, and for pushing her to accomplish more than she could have imagined.

She happily states that she has not been hospitalized in over two years. This is exciting news for someone who had struggled so significantly.

This is the type of family that members experience when they join an F45 gym because F45 is not just a workout; it’s a welcoming family and community where people truly care about each other’s well-being, where they want you to succeed, and where they give you the tools to do so.

Janeen has found the F45 experience to be life changing.

As Tyson says, F45 is for the “everyday person.” You don’t have to be a seasoned athlete to join. The trainers are well versed in helping people of all shapes and sizes to improve their stamina, increase strength, and improve their overall fitness. It’s a place where all belong.

Tyson concludes by saying, “If you’re on the fence, time to get off and come get started.”
